Vains of Jenna

It’s taken me a while to track down this 2006 release by Vains of Jenna. I used to listen to Bam Margera’s Radio Bam on Sirius Satellite Radio. Occasionally, he’d drop a new band on his unsuspecting audience. That’s where I first heard about the Vains. Just a couple of days ago I was finally able to get this disk, which I guess saw limited release.

If you’re a fan of Hanoi Rocks, old Motley Crue, Guns N’ Roses, and bands like that, you’re going to like Vains of Jenna. These guys have brought hairspray and tattoos back the Sunset Strip in L.A., after relocating from Falkenburg, Sweden.

Singer Lizzy Devine and bassist JP White got together in 2004 and talked about putting a band together, but nothing came of it at the time. The following year, White was back in Sweden, looked Devine up and asked if he was still interested. “He liked the idea and we did some songs in his studio,” White told Sleazeroxx. “A week later I asked my brother Jacki (Stone) if he wanted to join the band and he did. We tried some lead guitar players but no one was right for us. The only one we wanted was this punk called Nicki Kin. We asked him to join the pack and he finally did and Vains Of Jenna was born.”

As far as the band’s name, White says he came up with it after a night of partying. “I woke up the next morning and saw this piece of paper with 10 different band names on it. Vains Of Jenna was the first band on the paper and I thought it looked cool.”

The Bam connection has served the Vains well; they were the debut act he signed to his Flithy Note record label. Filthy Note released Vains of Jenna's debut album, Lit Up/Let Down in October and sent them to play a bunch of small club dates in the United States. They also had a slot at this year’s SXSW and scored the opening position on the Ratt / Poison tour.

They are right now planning their Nov. 17 homecoming show at Club Vodka in Los Angeles before heading into the studio to start work on their second full LP.

Stone - No, I haven't heard that. I saw mention of it when I was looking up the band bio, but couldn't find the song anywhere.
