Spammers and Comments

I really, really appreciate all the comments from people who have just found my blog. It's good to know I'm doing this to entertain at least a few other people, as well as myself.

Unfortunately, as is the case everywhere on the Internet, there are a handful of assclowns who make a living spamming us honest citizens. I enjoy the feedback I get from readers, so I am not disabling comments, I'm just going to start moderating them. I think the only difference is that they won't show up until I OK them. No censoring, just (hopefully) making spammers have to work a little harder to piss me off.

I apologize to anyone who is inconvenienced, but if I see one more comment suggesting I have bad credit or need a larger penis (it doesn't matter if they're correct!), I am going to go ballistic!

Good for you. It is a shame it comes down to you having to take this extra step/time but if it preserves the quality of your site while preventing spammers the privilege it just might be worth it. Good luck.

Now if only there was a way to spamn spammers...

Does anyone actually make money off those ads?

Hey Aikin,

Glad Blogger is featuring "Licorice Pizza". I was so happy to see the "Licorice Pizza" records lady, I worked for LP in California when I graduated high school in 1985. Ahhhh.... those were the good ol' days.

I came across your page in the Blogs of Note. I thought the name sounded familiar, then I saw your banner picture. I'm 99.9% sure that was taken close to the neighborhood where I grew up [the Redondo Beach, Ca area]. Unless it's some OTHER Licorice Pizza next to a mechanic, at a similar intersection. I believe it's a Mexican food place now, with the same sign, but a different name.
Nevertheless, I've always loved that sign; thank you for immortalizing it via picture and blog.

astrogeek - absolutely. It's more time consuming, but I've already caught a couple of spammers.

pete - I've considered that, but I'm not too savvy with html. I think I'll look a little more at it and the actual difficulty level.

nicole - thanks!

avra - I do appreciate that! Let me know what you think.

0 - that is cool - thanks for sending the screen shot. Should I take "old friend" as meaning I know you from somewhere?

sarah - I'm sure there's a fat man somewhere laughing all the way to the bank with his spam $$.

jordy - Awesome! I used to go to a Licorice Pizza store in San Bernardino when I lived there. I still remember the radio ads: "Howdy, this is Leslie from Licorice Pizza."
I always thought she had a very sexy voice.

Mat - I'm glad someone finally recognized that sign! When I first found it and put it on my blog, I put up a post asking if anyone recognized it, but I didn't get any response. I don't make it back to CA too often, but I think I'll go out of my way to see if that taco stand is still there.

Spam deluge, eh?

Well... as a fellow blogger with a number of blogs and sites, I can only say to you what Bruce Willis said to Reginald VelJohnsonn in Die Hard:

Welcome to the party, pal!

Good for you, being there, now I have to moderate too... isn't it terrible that some idiots are only able to live by spamming others? couldn't they just use their brains for something more... mmmh... useful?

You have the right to moderate the comments that come into your blog and I'm sure readers won't mind.

Stumbled on your blog while checking out my own. I currently have three readers, and I make two of them read it! But truly, I like what you do here. And growing up in the San Fernando Valley, our record store Licorice Pizza was one of my favorites. I'm always in awe of people who delve into music on multiple levels, and easily show other people what they hear. Very groovy!Good luck with your blog, and of course ROCK ON!

Yup, I definately agree with you...

hey, since your email address is not available on your profile, would it be ok if I linked your blog to mine?

- whim in Singapore (I last left a comment on the Joe Jackson blog entry)

Whim - Yes, please do link me. The more publicity the better! I plan to eventually update my blogroll and have a few to add myself.

It makes me glad to see that I am not the only one that is about to go ballastic if I recieve yet another spam comment. I tend to get the "get rich quick off the internet" spam, which is nothing more than someone trying to convince you to spam others.

If I don't get spam on my blog, does that mean I'm not popular enough?

Damn! : )
