A Megabox of Megadeth

You ever have one of those days where you just feel like taking a tire iron to the heads of those middle-management morons? You know those types I’m talking about: The bastards who used to be called REMFs – the guys who have never done your job but still know how to do it better than you? Well, today was one of those days.

The only way to wind down from one of those days is to come home, have a beer and put on some Loud. Fucking. Metal. That’s why we’re fortunate we’ve got Megadeth and Dave Mustaine. Or, as Honey Horneé says to Garth Algar: “Don't you just love music?”
To which Garth replies, “Got any Megadeth?”

This all ties neatly together because I was able this weekend to check out a few tracks from Warchest, Megadeth’s upcoming box set. Then today, well it just seemed to fit the mood.

Warchest is a four-disk-plus-DVD collection that reaches back to Megadeth’s 1985 debut, Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!. It also includes a huge chunk of b-sides, live stuff, and demos. “This is, by far," Dave Mustaine says, "the best and most comprehensive look at all things Mega if you had to get a crash course in metal.”

Warchest will be out Oct. 4.

Skin o' My Teeth (live).mp3

And, here’re some upcoming shows. What? Do I see a South Florida date?

Sept. 21: Egyptian Room; Indianapolis, Ind.
Sept. 22: Newport Music Hall; Columbus, Ohio
Sept. 23: Orbit Room; Grand Rapids, Mich.
Sept. 25: Town Ballroom; Buffalo, N.Y.
Sept. 26: Irving Plaza; New York, N.Y.
Sept. 28: Lupo’s; Providence, R.I.
Sept. 29: Hampton Beach Casino, Hampton Beach, N.H.
Sept. 30: 9:30 Club; Washington D.C.
Oct. 1: Toad’s Place; Richmond, Va.
Oct. 3: Revolution; Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Oct. 4: House of Blues; Orlando, Fla.
Oct. 5: House of Blues; Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Oct. 6: Norva; Norfolk, Va.

  7. That's pretty cool that you write about Megadeth and Head of Femur in the same blog without being condenscending to either band or reader. I never listened to a lot of Megadeth but I remember in the 90s they had a great track called 'Symphony of Destruction.' That was a good tune to hear on a bad day.

  9. I'm a music fanatic, but if I listened to Megadeath, I'd hurt myself. You know ... whiplash, concussions, throwin' the hip out ...

  11. It's great to see them touring again and it's even better knowing Dave Mustaine is fully recovered. I guess, some people have to learn multiple times from their experience to actually "wake up". My favorite Megadeth song is "Angry Again" and my favorite album is easily "Countdown to Extinction". Great blog! :o)

  14. pyracy - I'll mix it up a little, but generally I agree!

mack - you are an ASSHOLE, my friend.

curtisology - I was surprised how many Megadeth songs I recognized from that sampler disk, even though I'm only a casual fan.

dave - I'm gonna try to make the Ft. Lauderdale show, but it's in the middle of the week, so that may be tough.

z young - I think I e-mailed you personally about that comment, but to reiterate, I wouldn't post stuff I wouldn't listen to, so that cuts out a lot of potential for sarcasm.

    ajm - thanks!

kat - that happens when you get old! Just kidding, I have no idea how old you are, I just know I have to be careful!!

    mzhuny - thank you!

    sarah - awesome comment! Thanks!

larz - I haven't had the chance to see Megadeth live, but hope to soon (see above!)

luvautumn - I wanted to e-mail you about your comment, but can't locate your profile or blog or any contact info.

  15. Who is that idiot mack who left you that whacked spam?

Anyway... looks like Mustaine has gone Christian, along with Brian "Head" Welch. What's next?

Maybe Hetfield, Ulrich and gang will be singing at a Greg Laurie event?

    Would be fun to watch!
